Your rating: None Average: 5 (3 votes)

John Robey's web comic, The Suburban Jungle, is a "furry" comic that follows the life and times of aspiring model Tiffany Tiger, as well as her coworkers and associates. It has been successful enough to spawn the book La Vida Panthera, a collection of TSJ comics published by the good folks at Plan 9 Publishing. The following was posted 5/18 on the website:

May 18, 2001: LIVE Chat With Dover! Everybody's favorite code-speaking geek will be online at 9 PM eastern time tonight (Friday, May 18th) to chat, schmooze, tell you embarrassingly personal stories from his past (well, maybe not), and generally give you a behind-the-scenes look at the hard-working life of a comic strip character. For details, go here, or just read this blurb from Hikaru Katayamma:

The server will be irc.stratics.com port 6667. We will be using channel #so2k. Note that the # sign is required. If you don't use it, you won't be able to join. Also I suggest that everyone put "SJ-" infront of whatever nickname they choose. The server allows people to register/reserve nicknames and this will avoid any conflicts with existing nicknames.

For those of you who don't have an IRC client and don't want to download/install one, you can go to http://chat.stratics.com/ and use their Java chat program. On the left hand index colum, you'll see a series of screen resolutions. Simply click on the one that you want to use and it will prompt you for the required information.

For example, if I were to use the Java chat, I would fill out the following

Nickname: SJ-Hikaru

Channel: #so2k

Real Name: Hikaru Katyamma

At that point I would simply click on "connect now" and join the chat.

I hope to see y'all online tomorrow at 9PM Eastern, 6PM Pacific, 1AM GMT.

The log from the chat can be found in their message boards, or at

Hmmm. That appears to have imploded. Let me try that again:

The log of the chat has been posted to their message board. Or, you can go straight to it by following this link. The format of the log itself is a little frustrating, as you can't see who said what, but you can get the general gist if you follow it closely enough.
